Why Reviewing Your Quote Conversion Rate Matters
1 September 2026 · By Heaney Accounting
Many tradies spend hours quoting for work only to find they are winning less than half of their leads. If you are quoting for five jobs but only landing one, your sales process might have a significant leak. Analyzing your conversion rate helps you identify whether your pricing is too high, or if your follow-up process needs an immediate tune-up.
The first step is to categorize your quotes by job type and size. You might find that you have a 90% success rate on small service calls but a 10% success rate on big renovations. This data tells you exactly where your business is most competitive and where you might be wasting valuable time on jobs you are unlikely to win.
Consider your follow-up strategy once a quote has been sent to a client. Many trade businesses send a quote and then simply wait for the phone to ring, which is a missed opportunity. A polite, professional check-in two days after sending a quote can often be the difference between getting the job and losing it to a competitor who was just a little more persistent.
Finally, check if your quotes are detailed enough for the customer to understand the value of your work. If your quote is just a single price on a piece of paper, customers will almost always compare it to the cheapest alternative. By listing the specific components and quality materials, you justify your price and show clients why your service is worth the investment.
